Thang
Ran from the OPRF track to the Oak Park Avenue parking garage, where one cinder block was waiting.
Four rounds of stairs up, an exercise across the flat top, a crawl down the slope, then a run down the stairs. Climbs included a quick pace, single leg hops, two foot hops and two stairs at a time. Across the top we did inchworm merkins and lunge walks. Back to the stairs we did bear crawls and crab walks.
Continuous climbs up two stairs at a time and back down.
Carried the cinder block to Fairgrounds Coffee and did monkey humpers for the PAX having coffee.
Mary
Flutter kicks, scuba Buddhas and heels to heaven.
COT
Last year, my friend Chuck was at the top of the Sears Tower when I finished SkyRise. I hadn’t seen him in years. Chuck has used a wheelchair since high school, and he has never lost his humor. At his wedding, he rolled in with his wife while everyone stood and applauded. He grabbed the mic and said, “No need to stand up.”
I’ve watched Chuck coach sled hockey with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, race, and now coach his kids’ hockey teams. Another friend of mine received help from the AbilityLab after a motorcycle accident. His recovery has been a much harder road to watch. Both friends remind me that life after an injury is complicated, and that having people and resources there matters.
That is why we are training for SkyRise and raising money for Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. We can choose to take on 105 flights. The people the AbilityLab serves face challenges they did not choose, and our climb can help support them.
Join us at the Sears Tower on November 8.
