COT Reflection
The 3 parks we visited were where I spent a lot of time the first 10 years of my solo parenting. Lincoln was where I got my adult interaction every day. In 2016 I’d get up at 5 and drive my car to Lincoln and sprint home before my kids got out of bed. So we could walk to school with our Wenonah neighbors. My kids loved it and I wanted them to feel the community and get adult time. A winter morning much like today I slipped on the ice and cut my chin open. I still got my oldest to Lincoln on time and threw the twins in the car and made it to Longfellow by 8:15. Looking back at those years I was so focused on logistics I was ignoring the feelings. So the homework was a reminder to check in.
Homework:
Think of someone close to you, a partner, a parent, a friend, or a child. If you feel comfortable, ask them where you are succeeding in that relationship and where they see room for growth. If asking does not feel right, then consider what you imagine they would say. And can you receive the second part with honest and non defensive reflection.
Share with your small group what came up for you. Then listen in return as your partner shares theirs. Your job is to hear them without trying to fix it or defend it. Just listen and reflect.
